The formation of blood clot in deep vein is called DVT and It can partially or completely block the blood flow. If the blood flows very slowly through the veins it will form clumps that cause blood clot(thrombosis).

It develops in superficial veins causing superficial thrombophlebitis and in deep vein causing DVT.

 

Symptoms

Sometimes DVT may show any noticeable symptoms.

  • Pain or tenderness in legs while walking and standing
  • Warmth in affected part
  • Swelling of leg
  • Red / discoloration of skin
  • Visible surface veins

Risk factors

  • Family or personal history of blood clot
  • Age -60 years and above
  • Prolonged sitting

  • Maintain a balanced diet: Avoid junk food. Include green, leafy vegetables, eggs, cereals, and mustard greens in your diet. Drink adequate amounts of water to enhance blood circulation.

 

  • Quit smoking:  Smoking cigarettes may result in the formation of blood clots in your vein.
