Ayurveda for Diabetes

Diabetes is a metabolic disease, that causes high blood sugar. In this condition, the pancreas won’t be able to produce insulin. How many days, one can take artificial insulin?? Is there any alternate way where we can stimulate the production of natural insulin? There is a way through which Ayurveda helps reverse the condition and correct the root cause. Ayurveda says for the formation of every disease, there is an involvement of the digestive system directly or indirectly. When you follow a proper diet, regular lifestyle and peaceful mind, it strengthens your digestive system and helps to control the blood sugar level. Causes –

According to Ayurveda,

Excessive sleep, sleeping in the daytime, being physically inactive, excessive intake of sweets, curds, a diet that aggravates Kapha etc.

Diet –

Diet is one of the important pillars in Ayurveda, to get a healthy life. In diabetic patients, the digestion system will be weak, and the toxins build up in the body. So, one can have fibrous food rich diet as they are easy to digest. Reduce the intake of food which are having a high glycaemic index, don’t avoid it completely. Avoid junk foods, oily and fried food, pasta, aerated beverages like Coke, Pepsi, caffeinated drinks like tea, coffee, dairy products etc. Maintain timely meals, sleep and exercise every day. Broken wheat can be taken daily, instead of rice. Avoid meats, as they may increase inflammation. Warm water can be used for drinking purposes. Light fruits like apples, pomegranates and berries can be taken. Ghee can be used along with meals, as it strengthens the digestive fire.

Lifestyle –

Because of a sedentary lifestyle, physically inactive, we gain a heavyweight. Obesity is one of the main reasons for the occurrence of Diabetes. To control weight, walking, jogging and daily exercise are very important. Walking for 100 steps after dinner helps for the proper digestion and induces good sleep. Yoga practice helps to stimulate the production of natural insulin. For example – suryanamaskara, veerabhadrasana, pavanamuktasana etc. In prediabetic conditions, at least 150 minutes of exercise in a weak is recommended.

Medication –

Ayurveda medicines always focus to treat the root cause. In diabetes, based on which dosha/ bodily factor is aggravated, based on those medicines will be given. Ayurveda experts analyse body constitution, the strength of a patient and disease, diet and lifestyle will prescribe medicines. These medicines help control the blood sugar level and stimulate the digestive fire. Some of the herbs like jambu, turmeric, gooseberry, Giloy, and neem help to reduce the blood glucose level.

In today’s world, everyone’s life is getting mechanical. Due to a busy schedule, many times we eat highly processed food, junk food etc. we skip natural sleep and follow daytime sleep etc. When we practice this on daily basis, the toxins start getting accumulating in our body and weaken the digestive capacity. This creates many health problems. Diabetes is also one among them. Diabetes can be reversed, if we follow a proper diet, regular lifestyle, yoga practices, and suitable medicines.
